The Utah Jazz's early season performance has been a rollercoaster, but head coach Will Hardy remains optimistic. Despite a 3-7 record, Hardy believes the team has shown more promise than problems.
Defensively, the Jazz have made subtle improvements, ranking 12th in the NBA in rim protection. However, their three-point defense needs work, as they're currently getting burned by opponents' long-range shooting. Offensively, the Jazz have struggled with their three-point shooting, ranking near the bottom of the league with a 30.8% success rate. Hardy acknowledges that the team's shot selection has been solid, but the shots simply aren't falling.
"I feel like our team is playing pretty well offensively, but we're just not shooting the ball well," Hardy said. "It's a make-or-miss league, but the makes and misses can also affect your mindset."
Hardy's positive outlook stems from the team's overall competitiveness and the potential he sees in their young core. Players like Lauri Markkanen, Keyonte George, and Ace Bailey have shown flashes of brilliance on the offensive end, despite the shooting struggles.
"There have been tough stretches, but I'm pleased with the first ten games," Hardy added.
The Jazz still have a long journey ahead, and their development will likely extend beyond this season. But Hardy is encouraged by what he's seen from his young squad, and believes they have the potential to improve and become a formidable force.
So, while the Jazz's start may not have been perfect, Hardy's takeaway is a positive one, and he's eager to see what this team can accomplish as they continue to grow and develop.
